Abstract:
Gold boshan, as a kind of gold accessory on the headgear in ancient China, possesses rich social and cultural connotations, and is an important part of the ancient headgear ornament system. Through the methods of documentary research and multiple evidence method, the case study concludes that gold boshan has a fixed type, and gold dang is not exactly the same thing with it; whereas, they exist the involving or involved relationships. Gold boshan originated from King ZHAO Wuling of "shooting on horse in hu dress", which was inherited from the Warring States Period to the Ming Dynasty. According to the unearthed objects, the approximate size of the gold boshan ranges from 3.8 to 8.4 cm in length and from 3.1 to 8.2 cm in width, and its production process adopts the "bead-bombing process". Based on the official history records, we can conclude that gold boshan is a specific headgear for a specific bureaucrat. The wear of the gold boshan shows a hierarchy of respect and religious thought. The study of gold boshan helps to understand the cultural connotation of ancient headgear.
