摘要:
纸质甲胄是明代重要的甲胄品类,但学界对纸质甲胄的结构形制、选材机制与防护性能等还没有一个系统的分析。通过系统梳理相关史料,从结构分类、选材机制、使用情况与流行原因4个维度,对明代纸质甲胄展开综合探究。分析认为:①就结构而言,明代纸质甲胄可分为札甲式、鱼鳞甲式、结球式、整片式4种,其中以鱼鳞式纸甲为主流; ②就选材而言,军队供给充足时,纸质甲胄首选材料为茧纸、绵纸,条件所限部队或民间武装,常以竹纸等易得纸张替代; ③就使用情况而言,纸质甲胄流布广泛,不仅南方抗倭部队、北方辽东军队及各地民兵大量列装,民间匪盗也常私自制备使用; ④就流行原因而言,纸质甲胄的广泛应用是火器时代甲胄轻量化发展趋势的体现,其有轻便、易得、制造迅速、适应南方气候等优势,在综合权衡防护能力、士兵负重与制造成本后,成为实用价值极强的甲胄类型。
Abstract:
Paper armor constituted an important category of armor in the Ming Dynasty, yet academic research on its structural form, material selection mechanism and protective performance remains insufficient. By systematically sorting out relevant historical documents, this paper conducts a comprehensive investigation of Ming Dynasty paper armor from four dimensions: structural classification, material selection mechanism, application status and reasons for its prevalence. The research concludes the following points: ① in terms of structure, Ming Dynasty paper armor can be divided into four types: lamellar armor, fish-scale armor, knotted armor and one-piece armor, among which the fish-scale type dominates; ② in terms of material selection, official troops with sufficient supplies primarily adopt cocoon paper and cotton paper as raw materials, while combat troops and civilian armed forces tend to use accessible alternatives such as bamboo paper due to resource constraints; ③ in terms of application, paper armor enjoys wide popularity and extensive deployment. It is massively equipped by anti-piracy troops in southern China, garrisons in Liaodong in northern China, and civil militias across the country, and is also privately manufactured and used by civilian bandits; ④ in terms of prevalence drivers, the widespread adoption of paper armor reflects a trend toward armor in the firearm era. Featuring light weight, easy accessibi-lity, rapid manufacturability and adaptability to the southern climate, paper armor presents excellent practical value after a comprehensive trade-off among protective performance, soldier load bearing and manufacturing cost.
